I Hear Noises . . .

This is an assignment for my Online Journalism class with Dr. Landreville. She asked us to take our audio recorder with us at all times and record any ambient noise for about 10 seconds. We were to collect about 2 minutes of ambient noise, 12 different noises recorded for about 10 seconds. We then narrowed down our clips to our top six, which have been posted on my blog. Guidelines for this assignment were that we must have had at least one recording form outside, inside an office, classroom, or other workplace and in a living quarter. Can you guess what my ambient noises are of?

Ambient Noise – Sirens

This ambient noise is of traffic and sirens. I recorded this ambient noise at my sorority house, Pi Beta Phi. I heard sirens and ran outside the back door facing 15th Street and recorded the ambulance driving by. You can hear other vehicles drive by as well. The siren and traffic ambient noise on the class blog could be in an audio journalism story covering 9/11.

Ambient Noise – Office

This ambient noise was found at work. I work as the paraprofessional for the Multicultural Affairs Department at the University of Wyoming.  It is a recording of a conversation in an advising meeting. This ambient noise could be used on the class blog in an audio journalism story covering cultural and language barriers in the workplace.

 Ambient Noise – Running Water

This ambient noise is a facet sink of running water. This ambient noise was recorded at my sorority house in the kitchen. This ambient noise could be used on the class blog in an audio journalism story covering the freshwater crisis, regarding the lack of drinkable water in countries.

Ambient Noise – Footsteps

This ambient noise is of one of my sisters walking barefoot in the living room on hard wood floor. It was recorded at my sorority house in the living room. This ambient noise could be used on the class blog in an audio journalism story covering religion and “Walking in God’s Foot Steps.”

Ambient Noise – Sprinkler

This ambient noise is of a sprinkler going off outside. I recorded this ambient noise outside my sorority house on Sorority Row. This ambient noise could be used on the class blog in an audio journalism story covering irrigation methods.

Ambient Noise – Applause

This ambient noise is of my class applauding after one of the students gave a presentation. This was recorded in my Spanish class at the University of Wyoming. This ambient noise could be used on the class blog in an audio journalism story covering the benefits of encouraging your children in sports.
